40th Anniversary Scholarship Fund
Gay and Lesbian Community Center, Albany
The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Center (CDGLCC) is the oldest continuously-operating gay and lesbian community center in the country and is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2010. For the first time in its history, the CDGLCC is offering a significant scholarship to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) high school students as they pursue college. Thanks to a considerable gift from Joshua Dunning Powell, the scholarship will provide four students with over $2000 towards their expenses during their first year of college.
“The CDGLCC would like to thank Joshua Powell for this amazing gift, and for helping LGBT youth in the Capital Region achieve their dreams. We serve over 1000 youth a year through our programs, and this initiative will help promote the importance of education and pride in your community,” says Judy Disco, Board President for the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council.
The 40th Anniversary will officially kick off on March 5th, with a celebration at the Albany Institute of History and Art. There are a series of events planned throughout the year, including Capital Pride (June 1- June 13) and the Annual Awards Gay-la in October, where the recipients will be honored.
